Welcome to our two bedroom luxury Yorkshire Cottage
Spring Cottage was originally an 18th century farm worker’s abode on the edge of the village, with its own orchard and pigs. Today the pigs and orchard have gone, but its location remains the same: backing onto farmland, on the edge of the quiet North Yorkshire village of Great Habton.
It’s still full of original features, which give Spring Cottage its charm, but of course it’s full of the modern day comforts that you have in your own home too, such as wifi and a dishwasher. Why compromise on these comforts just because you’re on holiday?
Here’s a floor plan of the cottage to show the layout (its scale is approximate).
Parking is at the side of the cottage and enter via the lobby on the ground floor. The parking space is just for Spring Cottage guests.
We call the dining room the family room as it’s a multi-functional space. It leads off the kitchen so you can relax on the sofa in here, while your lunch is being prepared (if you’re lucky). Or you can be the person preparing lunch, while chatting to the person relaxing in the family room! Chat, dine, watch tv, listen to music, play on the Wii, look out onto the stunning garden, the choice of activity is yours.
The separate lounge is the perfect place to escape to once you’ve put the kiddies to bed, or if you want that quiet place to read the newspaper. It’s one of the oldest rooms in the cottage, just look at those beams! It has a fantastic view onto the garden too. Of course, the log burner is a very popular feature if you holiday here in the cooler months.
The kitchen is small but perfectly formed and very well equipped. There’s no need to bring your own sharp knives, nutmeg grater or egg cups! We provide all these and more.
It’s private, secure and south facing.
Professionally landscaped with two circular lawns and a vegetable patch. The patio is perfect for an early evening glass of Yorkshire wine, and is real suntrap. And the circular lawn is ideal for a game of croquet and pick some rocket, from the vegetable patch, to add to your evening meal.
There are also garden swings at the end of the garden, for our junior guests. As well as garden toys and a paddling pool
Into the evening, light the fire pit, top up your glass and spot the bats at nightfall.
Upstairs you’ll find the bathroom and the two bedrooms. Because it’s an old cottage, be careful as the stairs are steeper than most.
The bathroom has a free-standing luxury bath tub (ideal for two!) Lie back, light the candle and star gaze through the roof window. There’s also a separate shower cubicle.
The master bedroom is spacious. The kingsize bed which is so comfy with a deep sprung mattress and black-out blinds, ensures a good night’s sleep. And the only sound you’ll hear at night is that of a passing barn owl!
The twin room is well stocked with books and toys to keep junior guests happy and is a haven for adults too. There’s no better place to read a book from, than the window seat in here. Just don’t get distracted by the view!
Spring Cottage is perfect for those seeking seclusion but not isolation.
It’s tucked away down a quiet lane, backing onto farmland, in the sleepy village of Great Habton; with its fabulous, village pub – The Grapes Inn. We definitely recommend the food here, it’s a gem of a place.
Great Habton is 6 miles from the market town of Malton and Pickering in the other direction.
And it’s also only 6 miles from majestic Castle Howard. The historic city of York is 22 miles away. Scarborough and Whitby on Yorkshire’s Heritage Coast are 25 miles to the east. You’ll find the North Yorks Moors National Park only a short drive away too.
For adrenalin seekers head to nearby Flamingo Land or take your mountain bike to Dalby Forest (secure bike parking is available at the cottage).
Just let us know what you need.
The cottage is also well equipped with children’s garden toys, indoor toys, games, DVDs and books. We know that happy children equal happy parents!
