Happy Return Guests

Roger and Gill came back to Spring Cottage, as they said they would. I remember last time they stayed, how much they enjoyed spending time at the village pub

This is what they had to say this time: “Wonderful stay again at Spring Cottage. We even had lovely weather and very peaceful and restful good fayre at the Grapes ‘as usual’. Thanks again Karen”

Hilary and Alan’s stay at Spring Cottage

Hilary and Alan’s stay at Spring Cottage

The highlights of Hilary and Alan’s stay were Malton, Helmsley, Filey the walking and the food! There were so many places they wanted to visit but there wasn’t enough time, so they will definitely be back very soon. So they told me!

Yorkshire Micro Breweries

Yorkshire Micro Breweries

Here are two Yorkshire micro breweries hubby and I visited recently.

Helmsley Brewing Company

Yorkshire Micro Breweries Helmsley

Or Sommat’s Brewing as the sign above the door says. Translated as “Something Is Brewing” for you none-Yorkshire speakers.

Just when you thought Helmsley had everything, along comes this brewery.  The bar area was relativeey small but with the brewing vats on full view you’re left in no doubt that this is a brewery first. Yet it has a welcoming  cafe/pub vibe.

Head down the main high street, the Black Swan Inn behind you, towards the bridge and it’s on the right hand side.

It’s a great addition to this popular town which already has several inns, bistros, cafes and gastro-pubs. This place is raw and real and I liked it for that.

Brass Castle Brewery Tap in Malton

Yorkshire micro brewery in Malton

What a fantastic addition this place is to Malton.

This micro brewery is situated in Yorkersgate (between the market place and the station). It was around 4pm we visited on a Saturday afternoon and the place was heaving.  With friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

Yorkshire beer and wineAs you can see, I was drinking wine rather than beer. But that’s what I loved about this place.  It was full of beer enthusiasts but I didn’t feel silly for asking for wine. In fact they also serve prosecco and tea and coffee.  There was a range of pastries for sale too, which I resisted.

Oh the beers – they serve 8 on tap and apparently Northern Blonde is a particularly good session beer (3.9% and “an easy-drinking and refreshing malty blonde”).

Bad Seed Brewery is also based in Malton, with brewery tours available. That’s on our to-visit list.

Malton, known as Yorkshire’s Food Capital also held its own Beer Town festival in May. Dates for 2018 yet to be announced.  Will this market town soon be called Yorkshire’s Beer Capital too?

Watch this space!

Spring Cottage North Yorkshire's New Kitchen Window

Spring Cottage North Yorkshire's New Kitchen Window

If you can't tell any difference between the two, then yay, that's exactly what I wanted!

The old kitchen window frame was rotten on the outside so needed replacing plus it was the only single glazing left in the cottage.

The new window looks great, is more secure and no more condensation.
